Plaster Dust Removal

Plaster dust removal is the fine white dust after skimming or sanding. It is cleaned dry first, and only after the plaster is dry enough that a wipe will not polish or mark the skim. We cover England, Scotland, and Wales. Send photos and a postcode on the form or WhatsApp.

When to book

When this visit is the right one

Wait for the plasterer. A skim can take days to dry depending on thickness, heat, and ventilation. We do not wash a wall that is still dark and damp. Book us when the dust has settled and the coat is pale and dry.

Full re-skim

Every room, including the sides of drawers if they were open, and the tops of units.

Patch repairs

Local dust that still travels. We check the doorway before calling it a one-room job.

Sanding after jointing

Finer than sawdust, same rules as plaster: dry lift, then a damp wipe.

Included, and what we will not do

What the visit covers

Included

  • Fine-filter vacuum of surfaces, frames, and floors
  • Wipe once the bulk dust is gone
  • Radiators, tracks, and the tops of joinery we can reach
  • A stop if the plaster is not dry

Not this visit

  • We do not skim, sand, or paint
  • We do not wash wet plaster
  • We do not promise to clean dust out of a closed wall or a plasterboard void
  • Asbestos-containing old coatings are not disturbed

How the work is done

Method

Vacuum with a fine filter, high to low. Then a barely damp cloth. Radiators are cleaned so the first time the heating runs it does not dump the dust back onto the skirting.

What you are looking at

White dust that reappears on a skirting, a cough of dust from a convector, and swirl marks where a wet cloth was used on the film.

What changes the quote

Cost

Rooms and whether wardrobes and units must be emptied. A full house after a re-skim is the long job. One ceiling repair is not. Drying time does not change the price. Starting too soon does, because the work gets marked and has to wait.

After the visit

Aftercare, DIY, and what makes the dust return

Aftercare

Do not dry-sweep. Ventilate without blowing a dusty landing into a clean room. If a decorator sands filler afterwards, that area is dusty again on purpose.

DIY or book it

Possible in one room with a fine-filter vacuum and a light wipe, after the plaster is dry. A whole-house re-skim defeats a domestic Henry-style machine because the exhaust puts the dust back. That is the usual reason to book it.

What fails again

Properly removed plaster dust does not regenerate. It returns from radiators, tracks, and any sanding that happens later. Cleaning too soon also fails because the wall is marked and the dust is still falling off a damp coat.

Questions about Plaster Dust Removal

Send the postcode and a few photos. We quote from the rooms and the dust. Use the form or WhatsApp.

How soon after plastering can you clean?

When the plasterer says the skim is dry, and the wall is no longer dark with moisture. Washing it before then marks the finish.

Why is there still dust a week later?

It was left in radiators or on top of furniture, or someone sanded again. A floor-only mop will not stop that.

Will you clean the plaster itself?

We remove the dust from it once it is dry. We do not polish, seal, or repair the skim.

Is a normal vacuum enough?

Only if it actually traps fine dust. Many household machines blow it out. If the room looks worse after hoovering, stop.
